Every summer the craze for fireflies sweeps China. As today is Chinese Valentine"s Day, or Qixi, we"ve seen the online firefly selling has been a busy industry recently. According to an investigation by Jiangsu Qinghuan Volunteer Service Center, the amount of fireflies trade online has exceeded 10 million this year, a 10-fold rise compared to the same period in 2014. Why the boom? And do we really have to buy those fireflies to light up our traditional valentine"s day? |
