[Photo: huanqiu.com] China has expressed serious concern after an Argentinean coastguard vessel fired on and sank a Chinese fishing boat in waters near the southern Argentine port city of Puerto Madryn. The Global Times newspaper quoted a Chinese foreign ministry official as saying that the Chinese embassy had lodged urgent representations with the Argentine side, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident. The Chinese side is also urging Argentina to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the Chinese crew, protect their legitimate rights and prevent similar incidents happening in the future. Local authorities say the boat"s crew were all rescued alive. They say the boat was suspected of illegal fishing and tried to flee into international waters when the coast guard ordered it to stop, while the firing order was given after the boat repeatedly maneuvered to collide with the patrol ship. |
